I Test Tools for a Living. After Filming 100+ Tests, This Little Leaf Blower Is the Best I've Found
I test tools for a living. Most of my job is saying no.
Every week, gadgets land on my bench that look great in an ad and fall apart in a real yard.
This summer it was small cordless leaf blowers.
A few went straight back in the box.
One didn't.
I filmed more than 100 tests with it: steps, patios, garden paths, the garage, my car, a motorcycle, even the fire pit.
It's called the SuperLeafBlower. It's the size of a cordless drill and weighs about 2 pounds with the battery on.
I had a personal reason to care. Last fall my 72-year-old dad threw his back out yanking the pull cord on his gas blower. He swore he'd never pull that cord again, and I wanted to find him something better than a broom.
Here's what I found.
The Numbers That Changed My Mind
I laughed when I unboxed it. Next to Dad's gas blower, it looked like a toy.
Then I wrote down what matters for someone like Dad:
- Weight: about 2 lb with the battery on. A half-gallon of milk weighs twice as much.
- Starting it: no pull cord, no choke, no primer bulb. One finger.
- Fuel: none. A 21-volt battery and a wall charger come in the box.
- Battery: it only runs while you hold the trigger. His front steps take about a minute, so one charge covers a lot of jobs.
Still, I don't trust a spec sheet. I trust a stopwatch.
I Put It to the Test. Here's What Happened.
Here are four of the tests that sold me.
Test #1: My back steps and patio, covered in dry fall leaves
- With a broom: 30 seconds in, I was still chasing the same leaves from step to step.
- With the SuperLeafBlower: steps and patio clear in about 30 seconds. No bending.
Test #2: A tower fan full of dust
Tower fans suck in dust all year and hide it inside the grille. Cleaning one out properly means a screwdriver and the better part of an hour.
- With the SuperLeafBlower: one pass over the grille, and a cloud of dust poured out in seconds. (Do this one outside.)
Test #3: A gravel garden bed buried in leaves
A rake drags the gravel along with the leaves, and a broom just rides over the top.
- With the SuperLeafBlower: the bed and the paths clear in about a minute.

After
Test #4: A grill that was about to go out
- With the SuperLeafBlower: gray coals to real flames in about 5 seconds. (Keep the nozzle back from the flames.)
The Garden-Hose Trick Behind This Little Blower
Here's the secret to how it works. Put your thumb over the end of a garden hose and the water shoots across the yard. Same water, smaller opening, so it has to come out faster.
The SuperLeafBlower does that with air. A small fan at the back spins fast and pulls air in. The body narrows toward the nozzle like a funnel, so the air speeds up on the way out and leaves as one tight, fast stream.
A big blower moves a lot more air, but it spreads it wide, like a hose with no thumb. On steps or a patio, you don't need a hurricane. You need a stream you can aim.
The result: a blower light enough to hang by the back door, for the jobs you face every day.
| Dad's gas blower | SuperLeafBlower | |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | About 8 to 10 lb | About 2 lb |
| Starting it | Pull cord, choke, primer | One finger |
| Fuel | Gas and oil, with fumes | Battery, no fumes |
| Upkeep | Spark plugs, filters, stale gas | Charge it |
| Where it works | Outdoors | Outdoors, the garage, the car |
One Tool. Every Season. No Gas Can.
Here's what I've used it for so far:
- Fall: leaves off porches, steps, patios, paths and the car
- Summer: clippings off the patio after mowing, water off the car or motorcycle after a wash
- Year-round: grit out of the garage, leaves off patio furniture, and getting the fire pit going (keep the nozzle back from the flames)

"But Is It Really Strong Enough?"
I had the same doubt, so I set a bowl of water on the patio and aimed it.
It emptied the bowl. Then it shoved the empty bowl across the patio.
No gas engine, so no fumes. It isn't silent, but it's far quieter than a gas blower, and it's on for a minute, not an hour.
The honest part: it's made for dry stuff. It won't peel wet, matted leaves off a lawn or clear an acre.
"What If I Have a Big Yard?"
Then keep the big blower for the big Saturday job. The SuperLeafBlower is for the other six days.
And the battery goes further than you'd think. It only runs while you hold the trigger, and you never hold it for long: 20 seconds on the steps, 30 on the walk, 10 on the car. One charge covers a lot of little jobs. Need more? Add a spare battery after you order.
What Dad Says Now
I brought one over on a Sunday. He turned it over in his hands and said, "That's it?"
Then he cleared his front steps. Then the walk. Then he went looking for more leaves.
"I don't have to plan for it anymore," he told me a week later. "I see leaves, I grab it."
Mom says the gas blower hasn't left the garage since. Mine hangs by my back door now, too.
What the Old Way Really Costs
Let's do the math:
- A new name-brand gas blower: $200 or more, plus gas and oil every season
- A yard crew: one fall cleanup visit can cost more than this blower
- Your weekend mornings: you don't get those back
The SuperLeafBlower's regular price is $198. Right now it's $99, half off, with the blower, a 21-volt battery and a wall charger in the box.

Why I Wouldn't Wait
The leaves are coming down, and they'll keep coming until the trees are bare. Every week you wait is another week with the broom, or another fight with a pull cord.
I don't set the prices, so I can't say how long the half-price deal will last.
Final Verdict: Is the SuperLeafBlower Worth It?
My honest take after a few weeks: of every small blower I tried this summer, it's the only one I kept.
The SuperLeafBlower isn't a smaller version of Dad's gas blower. It's a different kind of tool: the one you actually grab.
Will it replace a landscaper's backpack blower? No. But for porches, steps, patios and the car, it's all Dad needs, at about a quarter of the weight.
My prediction: in a few years, most garages will have one of these hanging next to the big blower.
P.S. If you dread the Saturday leaf cleanup, or you have a parent who still fights a pull cord every fall, try one for 90 days. If you don't reach for it more than your broom, send it back.
